TreasuredLocks.Com is an on-line boutique that is dedicated to providing high quality products suited for the need of African American hair and skin.

Tywana Smith opened the store because she saw several needs. Roughly three years ago she began to look for products for her daughter’s hair. She found there were very few stores that carried quality products for African American hair. Also, the people working in the stores did not know much about ethnic hair care. In frustration, she began looking on the Internet. She found a few products she liked and began ordering them on-line. However, there were problems. Often she had to wait for weeks for products. And, finding detailed information on the products was difficult. For example, even with the increasing number of people going “natural” and striving to avoid certain product ingredients, most manufacturers don’t make this information readily available to the buying public. Tywana thought: “There has to be a better way.”

Treasured Locks carries products that Tywana and her family have personally tried or have learned about through her interviews of people who have actually used the products. While the target demographic is African Americans, many others have benefited from the products. Treasured Locks has shipped products all over the world to people of all ethnicities.

The store carries a full line of shea butter products (a natural moisturizer used in Africa for centuries). Due to demand from its clients, Treasured Locks looked for an effective natural hair relaxer. After almost a year of research, Treasured Locks is now delivering that to its clients. Treasured Locks seeks out companies making high quality products that are unique and that are not yet widely distributed. Then, Treasured Locks provides a way for these companies to reach across the country and the world to people looking for products to solve their particular problem.

Tywana’s vision is to continue to expand the store’s offerings over time. However, she intends to maintain the boutique nature of the store by limiting the products she carries to those of exceptional quality. The store provides individual attention via e-mail and telephone and features links to other sites that provide valuable information.
